Let me start off my review with one fact - shortly after returning this film, I bought it. That alone should tell you what I really think of it - it's worth buying.

The film is differs from the book in quite a few ways: From being a small, elite team with armoured suits and enough firepower to level cities, the Mobile Infantry become a lightly armoured mass-infantry style force. The focus of the story is shifted away from a fairly serious view of Johnny's personal rise through the ranks and more towards the fight with the bugs, at times becoming almost blackly comic. While the bugs play a much larger role than in the books, their intelliegence has been downgraded. No longer do they carry guns, they just rush you and tear you apart in a 3m-tall wave of chitinous blades and mandibles. Personally, I find that scarier.
Oh, and not only is Dizzy Flores no longer dead on first introduction, but he's had a sex-change, to a smokin' hot babe at that.

While the film doesn't take itself too seriously, I feel that the changes made were for the best - as written, the book would have made a pretty boring film. This one's definitely worth a watch. In fact, I might just crack open a bug - a Bud I mean - and watch it now...
