I sense Kubrick, somewhere... , 4 April 2005
  • Birth on DVD (2004)
Starring: Nicole Kidman,  Lauren Bacall,  Anne Heche
    Director: Jonathan Glazer
    Certificate: 15
Superb! I wasn't sure what to expect when I sat in my cinema seat that night, but it wasn't this.
I only went to see it because I heard Glazer had directed, which by the way is good enough a reason, cos' Sexy Beast is ace! Anyway, Kidman's a good actress, mostly subtle, hardly ever overacts, in my opinion. Only she could have played this role, she's just great, as is Huston, but it's not really the story or the script which really spoke to me (although they are both v. interesting), no, it was the atmosphere of the film...
If you have ever seen 'Eyes Wide Shut' you'll know what I mean, the film is slow, but beautiful to watch. It's more about what the characters are not saying than what they are, just look into their eyes, what must they be thinking? Very thought-provoking, in some weird way it certainly has something to say to us all.....but what?
Easily one of the best, and definitely the most underrated films of last year.   1 out of 4 people found this review helpful
