You should all make your own minds up but.... , 17 July 2008
  • Straightheads on DVD (2006)
Starring: Danny Dyer,  Gillian Anderson,  Ewan Stewart
    Director: Dan Reed
    Certificate: 18
....dont rent this movie. You are wasting a rental. This is my first review on this site despite being a member for over a year but I just had to warn people about this awful movie. I read reviews of movies and good or bad I still like to make up my own mind and by all means do the same but dont say you weren't warned. The acting is awful (Gillian Anderson's reaction, or lack of it, when she is in the car and the attackers are jumping over it is a high/low point) Danny Dyer is a whingeing whiny pathetic excuse for a character. After about 30 mins of this film I had absolutely no interest in what happened to him. The scene at the end with Gillian Anderson, the rifle and her attacker was just disgusting and unecessary. The idea with revenge films is that you feel empathy for the people who have been wronged and side with them when they seek revenge. I remember cheering at the end of Breakdown when JT Walsh finally gets whats coming to him from Kurt Russell because you are totally on board with the characters. This is just the opposite, I couldn't stand any of them. Another point worth noting is that with revenge movies you do like bit of a build up to the perpetrators getting whats coming to them, in this movie two of them (and there are only three!) turn up and get it in about two minutes, surely a bit of tension building, action, a fight maybe? As you can probably guess I didn't like it at all. I would recommend leaving this one well alone. If I could have given it half a star I would have.
