Devil May Cry 4
on PS3
Certificate:
I'll keep it short and sweet. This might be worth renting for the boss battles, which are something that Capcom have always done well. But the general gameplay has hardly changed since the original, and is actually a step down from the frantic battles you could have in number 3. On top of that, Nero is simply a rehash of young Dante, only less arrogant. Which is a huge mistake since loveable arrogance was the only character trait Dante ever had going for him. Capcom also seem to have realised this, and decided to *SPOILER* switch to Dante for the second half of the game, and then have him do the same levels only in reverse. Which, at best, should have been a gameplay mode unlocked post game. *SPOILER* They also tried improving the gameplay of Dante from 3, and quite simply failed. To finish; after the hugely enjoyable and challenging DMC3, DMC4 has given us a less likeable main character, slower, clunkier gameplay, and a story that adds nothing to the franchise and is completely uninteresting. In a world of Ninja Gaiden and God of War, Capcom really can't afford to be so complacent. Despite all my bashing, this is still Devil May Cry; it still rocks. I'm just upset that it couldn't rock as hard as its predecessor.
