  • Amelie (2 discs) on DVD (2001)
Starring: Audrey Tautou,  Mathieu Kassovitz,  Yolande Moreau
    Director: Jean-Pierre Jeunet
    Certificate: 15
Amelie is, in every way it intends to be, a delight.

The character of Amelie Poulain is portrayed perfectly by Audrey Tautou, as a young french girl, who has never forgotten the enormous importance of allowing yourself to get lost in your dreams. Intent on becoming a do-gooder after a tremendous discovery in her home, she sets off on a journey that will have you guessing right up until the final reveal.

Aside from all that, Amelie as a character, is one of the most-likeable characters I have ever encountered in any film. Her child-like desire to see people smile as a result of her actions is incredibly endearing, and her unrelenting focus on dragging the positives out of what others would dismiss as pointless, will have you taking time out of your own day to find out what your simple pleasures are.

Overall, I believe if you find yourself interested in this film, then you should go for it as it was everything I wanted it to be, and definitely provides that feeling of warmth and kinship that it sets out to, while many films suffer from trying to push the sentiment too gratuitously, this is a film that, in its desire to invite the audience to appreciate the simpler things in life, doesn't have to lump on the emotion, it tends to come from within, and as a result, the film becomes a much more personal experience
