Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
on Xbox 360
(2007)
Certificate:
As a huge Turtles fan (I even saw the new movie) I was quite eager to play this. Although the movie didn't do the franchise any justice, the game is probably as good as a Turtles game is gonna get. It's very much like the Prince of Persia games in that your constantly running, jumping, swinging and missing on a set linear path. I have no problem with this but what ruined it was the fixed camera angles constantly making me miss. It's also very frustrating when you see a gap that previously the game told you to do one action which will only lead you to fail, and you actually need to use a basic technique. This problem with ingame tutorials plagues you again when you try to use a special move. The action is very much the same, it's just run and jump, combat, run and jump, combat, etc. This means that there is no difficulty curve until you get to the final bosses, but even then you just have to use your head each time for an easy win. Still for it's obvious gameplay flaws, the graphics and story slightly make up for it. I say slightly because it follows the CGI film which as I said earlier, was quite frankly crap. The graphics make the game very bright and cheerful although some shapes were quite pixelated even in HD. The game also has challenge maps as well as the opportunity to run through the story maps again to collect coins you couldn't before. This is actually pointless as you only use these coins to unlock silly features lig big heads, making the replay value a bigger waste of time. So this would definately be a rental at most for die hard fans, kids and achievement grabbers.
