I grew up during this period, and as far as I remember the atmosphere created by Foyle's War programmes is very accurate. It is enhanced by the superb acting of Michael Kitchen and Honeysuckle Weeks who seem to have stepped out of the 1940s right into my living room.
This one is a good story which was absorbing enough to keep my attention from start to finish.
