Resident Evil 5
on Xbox 360
Certificate:
RE4 was an outstanding game and the sequel promised to be as good if not better, whether it was or not im not sure but it was a great rent regardless. The graphics are really good but the xbox 360 version suffers from terrible screen tearing (with no v sync in sight) which irritates me to no end, however i managed to get rid of it by turning the console settings to 1080i if you have a full hd tv try this unless you can tolerate it, it is mostly in cutscenes. The controls are not as bad as people have made out and do add to the tension however they do take a little getting used to and, to be honest, feel a little outdated at times (particularly the knife action). The inclusion of coop is a controversial issue and like the controls have imho good and bad points. The partner ai is shocking and on the hardest setting a real burden, with sheva been far to trigger happy constantly begging for resources after consuming ammo like its going out of style. Having said that with online or local coop the game excells and is great fun but i do wish devs would stop opting for that cod 5 style twin box layout over trational split screen. The story is okay but i did get confused at times with keeping track of hundreds of different virus names but thats probably just me. The voice acting is better than some resident evils but one or 2 characters sound dreadfu, but again it is a matter of personal taste i suppose. Rent it and see for yourself but despite its flaws the overall experience of RE5 is definatly positive especially if playing coop. 4/5
