Brilliant , 30 September 2008

Alistair Cooke's America (4 discs) on DVD (2004)

The whole series is masterful. Alastair Cooke's easy but authoritative style makes watching the series an extremely enjoyable experience. I am bias, but his British slant to US history redresses the balance against the Hollywood version we are all fed. The final few episodes had a timely ring, referring to the financial crashes which were considered to be caused by greed and bankers 'playing with other people's money' which Cooke thought could never be repeated because of Rooselvelt's legislation to prevent it......overturned in the 1980s and today we have the results coming home to roost. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful
