Not being a fan of Leonardo di Caprio I was not really expecting much from this film. I have always regarded Mr di Caprio as a light weight in the Hollywood order of things. No longer.

Here is a film to place along side Schindler's List and The Killing Fields portraying the sad reality of the horrors of human greed and indifference. This time it is nearer to home in time scale and indicative of other conflicts which are not news worthy to the Western world. Man's inhumanity to man, red in tooth, claw, machine gun and rocket launcher.

Di Caprio is masterful and his character is believeable as a brutal anti hero who is one minute totally in control and vulnerable the next. Supporting actors are equally distinguished in what is a chilling story of a continent where life can be as cheap as the nearest bullet. OK, you can nit pick about the odd accent but the action is excellently shot and the sheer brutality of the subject not spared upon the viewer.

I am happy to join other reviewers in awarding five stars to this film, which was worthy of Oscar nominations. It is a long time since a film has brought tears to my eyes and I can only hope, probably forelornly, that similar films are not spawned from the continent's pain in future years.
