Jaws 4 - The Revenge
on DVD
(1987)
Starring: Michael Caine, Lance Guest, Lorraine Gary
Director: Joseph Sargent
Certificate:
Aside from Micheal Caine's, what appear to be mostly adlibbed, comic one-liners, there is very little to get excited about in this movie. Yes, it can be classed in the 'so bad, it's great!' genre, but then you could just watch Jaws 3 for that and avoid this one altogether. There is absolutely no sense of impending or actual dread; it was poorly acted and directed; involved a ludicrous plot: a shark out for revenge, even though it is a completely different one, and a woman SO scared of the ocean she moves to a small island entirely socially and economically dependent on the sea; and with a highly-motivated fishy killing machine that seemed to be dosed on thorazine for the entire film. Having to resort to importing clips from the original, even the production crew seemed to know ahead of time that this one was not going to swim on its own. A lacklustre outing which mercifully ended the franchise.
