Firstly I would like to address the rather vitriolic reviews for this film by the ever-knowing and 'film literate' users of Lovefilm who see fit to vomit out their illiterate and ill conceived opinions in the reviews section. Their main points seem to be, 'where is the twist ending?' and 'this film is so unbelievable': Let's address the twist ending. Does every Ridley Scott film end with an Alien being blown out of a pressurised cabin, every Wes Craven film have Freddy Krueger hiding in the shadows, every Kevin Smith film involve jokes about cock munchers (quite a few thinking about it, but not all of them)? Of course not, every director evolves and brings something new to the table with the next film they direct. MNS may have created a niche for the twist ending and he has done it very well, but this does not mean that every subsequent film he makes must have a twist in the tale. With regards to the unbelievable nature of the story, what exactly were you people expecting from a FAIRYTALE? I'm not sure if you are aware but the medium of film normally concerns fictional characters and incidents, none of it's real, it's all make-believe. I don't particularly believe that a terminator can come back from the future or that there's a little speccy lad who can cast spells on people, but I suspend my disbelief and try to immerse myself in the fantasy world. Some of you should try it; you may enjoy your films more. As for the film itself, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is escapism, a fairytale, if you like films like Labyrinth, Legend, and The Never Ending Story then this film will have something for you to enjoy. Another original and entertaining film from MNS for people who don’t have to have a scientific explanation for every tiny detail. Extras include a short featurette on how this bedtime story became a film, 30 minute documentary on the making of the film, deleted scenes, audition reels, gag reel, and trailers.
