Saw IV
on DVD (2007)
Starring: Tobin Bell, Lyriq Bent, Costas Mandylor
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman
Certificate:
Not only is this by FAR the worst Saw film, it's one of the worst films I've seen at all over the last few years. The film feels like it was written and edited by someone with the attention span of a goldfish. Seriously, anyone wanting a lesson in how to edit a movie like a film student experimenting with the editing suite for the first time should watch Saw 4. There is so much pointless flashy editing crammed into this movie that it feels like 'Baz Luhrmann's Saw' at some points. This is the first Saw movie not to feature any of the original writers and boy does it show. All actors involved deserve to have their careers tortured and slaughtered for being willing participants in such tripe. I loved Saw and enjoyed Saw 2 and 3 very much. This film is abysmal. Even the gore is lame and looks awfully false, (note the Starship Troopers-esque CGI squirting blood). And worst of all, the traps are pathetic and come nowhere near some of the ingenuity of the earlier examples. If you love good movies or horror movies do not rent this.
