Creation

"You've killed God!" exults a colleague after reading Charles Darwin's thesis.

Cast details

Creation: Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly
Don't get me wrong: Paul Bettany is excellent in these demanding emotional scenes, and reveals more sides to the old guy on the back of the ten pound note than most of us would have imagined.

This film is a mix of scientific discovery and personal tradgedy and is imbued with victorian views and principles! It explores Darwins dilemma in that publishing his theory he goes against God and his wife a devout Christian! It is almost as though he is being punished in his personal life for his beliefs! A must see film if a little long and with too many agonised close ups of Darwins face for my liking!Fine acting throughout and wonderful photography.

Shows a side of Darwin people perhaps do not understand. The relationship with his family verus the man of science. Enjoyable, but wouldn't want to watch it again and yes it was quite slow.

This is one of the most moving and intelligent films I've seen for a long time. Wonderful performances. Highly recommended.

  • Creation at snail's pace

Brilliant British Film but the Director could be accused of failing to get the audience to engage with the lead characters for the first 42 minutes. So whilst I am glad that I saw it all the way through, I was disappointed that it was such a slow start and such a narrow focus. This man is buried in Westminster Abbey; this tells you how much he suffered for such pivotally important science. Jennifer and Paul were as brilliant as ever they are.

Such a slow film with flashbacks to Darwins early life the only light relief, just about stayed awake to the end.
