The Inbetweeners

Having started life as a near the knuckle teen sitcom on E4, The Inbetweeners have made the leap from the small screen to the big.

And this increased budget and longer running time allows things to get lewder, cruder and much much ruder than ever before.

For those unfamiliar with The Inbetweeners, it’s the misadventures of four teenage friends as they try to survive the day to day challenges of raging hormones. There’s Will (Simon Bird), whose numbing social awkwardness is matched only by his crushing superiority complex, the overly sensitive but predominantly normal Simon (Joe Thomas), Jay (James Buckley), whose insecurities come to the surface in wildly unlikely boasts and the nice-but-wonderfully-dim Neil (Blake Harrison). This big screen excursion sees the four friends finally finish school and head off to the Greek resort of Malia for a fortnight of sun, sea, and ... well, you know the rest. Naturally things don’t quite go to plan.

From the off there a lot of laughs to he had here, albeit pandering to the lowest common denominator. If you don’t get a giggle out of a pasty tourist nearly drowning an eight year-old local and another getting intimate with a cougar the like of which nightmares are made, then The Inbetweeners certainly isn’t for you.  But base humour aside, the characters are given a chance to grow - for a start they get to talk to ACTUAL girls - and this growth offers them all some hope for life back in Blighty. There is the occasional misfire, such as a short lived break up within the group, but the highs more than outweigh the lows.

Anyone familiar with the TV show knows that writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris delight in putting the foulest words possible into their characters mouths and the movie certainly doesn’t disappoint; there’s language here that would make Gordon Ramsey blush. As usual Jay gets the best lines but everyone has their moment in the sun (literally in Will's case).

If you've ever been on one of these rite-of-passage bargain bucket trips, there'll be a lot of familiar ground here.

If you’ve ever been on one of these rite-of-passage bargain bucket trips, there’ll be a lot of familiar ground here; the tatty bars, the loutish behaviour, the chance of a holiday romance and the unbridled joy of being able to cut loose without having to face the judgmental eyes of parents over breakfast the next morning. It’s this demographic of hedonistic teens (as well as fans of the show) that the movie is squarely aimed at and anyone who fits these parameters will have blast sharing The Inbetweeners holiday video.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING AGES FOR ITS RELEASE AND IT WAS WELL WORTH THE WAIT.

MY BEST SCENE WAS WHEN THE LADS FOLLOWED NEIL OVER TO SPEAK TO THE GIRLS, THEIR DANCING IS SOOOO FUNNY I NEARLY WET MYSELF.

INBETWEENERS FANS ARE GOING TO LOVE IT!!!

    SO SAD ITS ALL OVER!!!!

AM GOING BACK TO WATCH IT AGAIN AND AGAIN, ALTHOUGH SOME PARTS INVOLVING NEIL MADE ME GAG HA HA

Having seen parts of the series the Inbetweeners I thought it was quite funny, well scripted and a well rounded comedy. Based on this i decided that watching the movie would be a safe bet. However, unfortunately, the movie fails to live up to what you would expect having seen the TV series. There are moments that are quite funny and well done, but overall the story is fairly bland and distinctly average - not something I would go out of my way to watch.

Being a fan of the tv show, even though I'm approaching my 50th year, I had high hopes for this film. Sadly, it is not a patch on the tv show and most of the 'humour' is not as subtle or cleverly crafted as in the tv shows. There are some good moments which raised a smile, but no laugh out loud moments as there were in the tv series. Well acted, but just a terrible script. Best avoided.

Terrible/nothing funny about it, only watched about ten minutes before I found something better to do. Don't waste time requesting it.
