[Highly rated reviewer]Funny how what was addictive at the time of broadcast now seems very lame.
The characters are almost neauseatingly self centred and their attitude to those less 'fortunate' than them in looks/money/career is either partronising or nasty. Calista is cute though.

Surely it's not the final series?By Gray2 (222 reviews) from London, England , 01 May 2012These get better all the time and, being into season 4, I've got to really know and love the characters now. The arrival of the next disk each time is like receiving a visit from an old friend :-) But as there are no more seasons listed, I'm starting to fear this pleasure may end soon.
ally mcbeal season 4By naughtymooma (25 reviews) from Wigan , 24 May 2009it keeps getting better and better more entertaining and funny with all the different stars that come in to it.
pretty unsatisfyingBy a customer from london, england , 21 Dec 2008this is really pap - i can see that calista flockhart is a good actress but knowing what downey jr can do otherwise, there is not much scope here - it convinces me that rarely can TV compete with film - although it does sometimes! the sheer melodrama and superficiailty of characterisations and story line of ally mcbeal just does not convince...i suppose it is professional, however.
Just Buy All 5 Series!By schumi2 (27 reviews) from Romford , 22 Oct 2008How can you really review Ally McBeal? Its almost impossible!
You have to be slightly mad to enjoy it. It makes us realise most of us are, and not to be ashamed of it.
Everyone has a bit of Ally McBeal in them. Some episodes hit raw nerves that no other series can. It deals with love in an amazing way, and some of the dialogue between Ally and Robert Downey Jnr, but more so, in previous series', between Ally and John Cage, is magnificent and will make you think about things for a long long time.
The court cases cleverly co-incide often with the personal lives or traumas of the lawyers defending the clients, a clever little twist.
Calista Flockhart is a magnificent actress, and Peter Mac Nicholl is just superb as John Cage. Robert Downey Jnr has always been a supreme (but chemically flawed) actor. He is brilliant (and sometimes brilliantly sarcastic in court) in series 4, and the other reviewers are right.....it may be the best series so far.
Ally McBeal is not some 'girly' series like Sex In The City or Desperate Housewives. It is not a 'canned laughter and predictable' series like Friends.
It is unique, clever, heartwarming, funny, and a screenwriting masterpiece.
COOL!!!By a customer from Glasgow, Scotland , 08 Dec 2006I never watched this tv series until I went out with my girlfriend and I didn't know what I was missing..I cant wait for the next dvd to come. WYou get so attached to the characters, but you should watch from season 1 as it refers alot to previous seasons.
