  'He seems to hate it doesn't he?'
  
  - 'What?'
  
  'Being a dad.'
  
  We flash back to a young looking Michael (without a beard) waiting for his girlfriend to give birth.
  
  Michael finds Walt with John Locke, (throwing a knife against a tree) and is really upset with both Walt and (more so) John Locke.
  
  'This is not goodbye forever.' (Proleptic irony there).
  
  'You think any of us want to be here?'
  
  - 'No but I don't think that anyone wants to get off this island as much as I do now!'
  
  Michael comes up with the idea that everyone builds a raft.
  
  It seems like Michael's past has been one of the hardest, (through the flashbacks).
  
  Charlie gets Claire's diary off Sawyer, (who apparently hadn't yet read it!)
  
  Michael chucks Walt's comic into the log fire.
  
  Things go from bad to worse for Michael, (in his flashbacks).
  
  In a flashback we see that Walt's mum and her new husband don't pay much attention to Walt and his step dad doesn't seem to like him.
  
  Susan hands over custody of Walt to Michael before she dies. (Or so her husband says).
  
  - 'There's something about him.'
  
  A polar bear is trying to attack Walt!
  
  It seems like Michael has buried the hatched with John Locke.
  
  Predictably Charlie's curiosity gets the better of him and he reads Claire's diary.
  
  Claire returns to Locke and Boone in the jungle while they're looking for Vincent.
  
  All in all its an exciting episode.
