hype ?By Mark MacMillan from scotland , 14 Nov 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]sex pistols = hype, rock n roll swindle = hype, mclaren = hype ...and he's having the last laugh cos we all bought it. Yes the whole thing HAS something and as an example of our culture in transition its as good as any. Like the whole punk movement which is founded in attitude and angst, the energy of the pistols is something to see. BUT the mediocrities of it all are there to see and mclaren soaping his nuts in the bath lording it over us is apt cos he put such a shine on it and fooled us all into thinking it was great, essential maybe but great it aint. Give me the Ramones anyday .. less pretension

Cash from Chaos? I kept the receipt, can I have my money back?By a customer , 22 Jul 2011The problem with this film is it's quite good until you read the stories, myths and legends behind it.
It's all well and good that uber svengali McClaren claims to have invented the ten commandments of inventing a band that couldn't play (which they could. Compare the Pistols to Crass or Conflict) Was the enemy of the media of the time (McClaren was in New York wrapping up a failed bid to manage the NY Dolls when the Bill Grundy incident happened and told his PA to sort it out) and were completely under his control (the band had been slowly disintegrating from the start and witholding pay just accelerated it).
It was good to see however a couple of scenes cut from the TV version. But the scene with McClaren in the bath and the making of Sue Cat Girl is VERY uncomforatble viewing (he said coughing gently into the back of his hand and looking away). Read 'The Wicked Ways of Malcolm McClaren' and 'Englands Dreaming' and rewatch the film to see what I mean.
Although the immortal line uttered by Sud in America 'Yeah, we are the best band in the world. Except for the Eagles' still made me laugh.
Hilarious piece of rock historyBy Anniegetyogun (116 reviews) from Down South , 28 Apr 2011A piece of punk history. Real Sex Pistols footage, anarchic and irreverent. Its no oscar winner but a must see, even if just to see Sid Vicious scratching his balls in front of a mirror.
the swindleBy azlem (2 reviews) from Brighton south coast , 15 Jul 2008brash, brassy and everything you'd expect and more from johnny, sid et al.
Punk Lives OnBy Kevin Griffiths-Boden from Wrexham , 29 Jan 2008Sometimes when you watch a film, then watch it 15 years later, it's not as good as you originally thought it was. However, this lived up to all expectations. This is one of the best rockumentaries ever made. Punk'd out man!
