I'm glad they were foundBy les reed from east London UK , 09 Jan 2006
[Highly rated reviewer]A first class DVD;it gives so much interesting and varied footage. The commentary is informed and never intrusive. The film quality is not too brilliant, but given the time it was filmed, and the fact that the recording equipment left a lot to be desired, it is more than acceptable. It seems that too many reviewers of this type of footage offer far too much critisism about film quality - get a life. Most of this footage is 40 to 75 years old - what do you expect: digital quality, perhaps?

Enjoyable steam railway nostalgia.By Bookrock (38 reviews) from Reading , 13 Apr 2013Very enjoyable nostalgia trip! Includes some railways we remember, so great memories. A must for the rail enthusiast, like my husband! Useful information on up-and coming Heritage lines, useful information for us!
Reminders of a Lost PastBy OscarFreak (487 reviews) from London , 19 Feb 2012This compilation of the some of the lost railways of the UK was well put together with some very good actions shots of life as it was before the era of the dreadful Doctor Beeching! Also of interest are the lines that managed to survive against the odds and in some cases flourish today perhaps more than did. A most see film for serious rail lovers.
Most enjoyable viewing!By halfwayagain (8 reviews) , 07 Jul 2011A well-balanced and most informative commentary on Britain's lost, threatened and recovered railways. Interesting coverage of a variety of lines across the country. I'd say it was as complete as it could get. Enjoy!
good film for enthusiastsBy a customer from dorset , 14 Jan 2010reasonable bit of history and not too nerdy - but it is still a film for enthusiasts
'The Lost Railways'By guitarman (19 reviews) from Crosskeys , 19 Mar 2009a good mix of archive and new, although I have seen most of the archive, it has a new commentry and it combines well in the dvd as a whole, would watch it again anytime, (and I am not a fan of 'modern steam') the archive is great.
