[Highly rated reviewer]this is a true epic
Customer ReviewBy a customer from UK , 23 Jun 2008This is not a professionally produced DVD, more of a home video for railway buffs. Image quality is good, but the content is very mixed and inconsistant. The commentary is rather monotonous in places, but does have some interesting facts to convey. Far from the best film about the WSR, but still watchable, if your a trainspotter, now who admits to that !!
WHAT A TERRIBLE DVDBy DdraigGoch from Torfaen , 12 Aug 2005I have just been unfortunate to view this DVD - OH DEAR, this DVD really does not do justice to the hard work done by members of the West Somerset Railway.
The production is nothing more than an amateur day out on one of the West Somerset's Gala Days. If the producer had taken time to get a line side pass the coverage would have been superb, as it was there are many shots where members of the public walk in front of the camera.
The main content is a "train ride" from Bishop's Lydeard to Minehead with the camera out of the window. There is very little footage from intermediate stations apart from on board the train, at Williton the producer just got off and back on the train. The two or three "view" scenes really needed a tripod to keep the camera steady.
The producer stated he "wasted plenty of tape" waiting for things to happen, what a difference if he had gone line side. As it is the DVD is great for those CARAVAN SPOTTERS and for those fortunate to get line side passes you may see yourselves from on board the train, it is pity the producer didn't follow suit. This DVD is certainly not worth buying unless you really are desperate. Had to give it 1 star as I could not select NO STARS
