Julia Roberts

Julia Fiona Roberts - born 28 Oct 1967, in Smyrna Georgia - was originally going to be a vet, and then a journo, but had to settle for being the less-talented sister of Eric Roberts. Hang on, this isn’t a parallel universe, this is the one where Mystic Pizza did happen (after an episode of Miami Vice), and launched La Roberts on the path to superstardom.

Two years later came the double-whammy of psychological thriller Flatliners and modern-day fairy-tale Pretty Woman: the latter confirming her status opposite silver-fox, sex-symbol snorter Richard Gere; the former almost resulting in her being Mrs Kiefer Sutherland. Until 11th hour cold feet. And this was years before Runaway Bride.

Despite a few duds, Julia remains A-list queen because: a. she’s rom-com gold, b. she makes business decisions like turning down Basic Instinct and Shakespeare In Love, but accepting (and netting an Oscar for) Erin Brockovich, and c. that 10,000 kilowatt smile. In fact, when a bunch of Bulgarian archaeologists unearthed a 9,000 year old skeleton in 2004, they named her ‘Julia Roberts’ because she had such a perfect set of teeth.

Wise words: "I'm too tall to be a girl, I never had enough dresses to be a lady, I wouldn't call myself a woman. I'd say I'm somewhere between a chick and a broad."
