How does the Pay As You Go (PAYG) rental service work?
What is the LOVEFiLM Pay As You Go (PAYG) service?
- Quite simply, it is DVDs delivered to your door with no subscription. It’s recommended for anyone who doesn't have time to watch films ALL the time.
- There are no monthly subscription fees payable. Instead, you simply buy rental ‘credits’ for the rental service as and when you want them. Each credit equals 1 rental, which equals 1 rental disc.
- The credits are valid for 180 days (6 months) from the date of purchase and do need to be used within this time period. If the credits are not used within the 180 days, then they will expire and you will no longer be able to use them. The expiry date of credits is always displayed in My Account option on the web site.
- You can buy these rentals in advance in batches of 4, 9 or 15 (from the equivalent of as little as £1.99 per credit) and they last for a whole 6 months. You can buy more than one batch at a time, but be careful if you do, they will all still need to be used within 6 months of the date of purchase.
- The type of credits batch that you select will determine how many rentals you can have on loan at any one time.
- 4 rental credit batch = 1 disc on loan at a time
- 9 rental credit batch = 1 disc on loan at a time
- 15 rental credit batch = 2 discs on loan at a time
- If you want to change which type of batch you have, you can select a different batch for your next set of credits if they wish, and purchase a different batch at the point of each purchase if you so choose. There is no necessity or requirement for a customer to consistently purchase one type each time you purchase a batch of credits. You can do this on the My Account page online.
Does the service work the same way?
- Yes! You still get the same great, convenient DVD rentals by post system. This means you still get access to over 65,000 titles; that’s all new releases, your favourite TV series and more. You can also enjoy the other new features that LOVEFiLM has to offer, including creating your own collections, taking part in the LOVEFiLM endless Quiz and our brand new ‘Multiple List’ feature.
- The same Rental list system is in place, simply send back a rental when you’ve finished with it, and if you have credits remaining, we’ll send you another disc in its place.
- Do please be aware that if your selection list runs out that we cannot send more rentals until you add more titles and that your rental credits can expire in the mean time.
- However, at the moment, we don’t currently offer a PAYG service for games.
- Please also be aware that the PAYG service uses the same pre-paid envelopes but they use 2nd class postage.
How do I buy more? What is “Auto-top-up”?
- There are two options for topping up on more credits whenever you run out; Manual top up and Auto top up. Each bundle of 4, 9 or 15 rental credits has one option for each of these two types.
- Manual top up is where you make the decision as to when you buy more rental credits. If at any point you use up your current credits, or they expire after the 6 month period, then your rental service will stop until you buy more. You can buy more through the My Account page online.
- Auto top up is where our system takes over this task from you and makes the whole thing more convenient by automatically buying you a new bundle of credits whenever your existing batch runs out. This means you can get an uninterrupted flow of rentals, so long as you have enough titles on your rental list, and that you don’t have to remember to keep logging in to top up your rental credits.
- You can change this setting, in the same way that you can change the size of the bundle you have selected, via the options on the My Account page online. Note that you can only have one setting per bundle and that to change the setting you will need to buy a new bundle so we recommend doing so when your bundle is exhausted, or contact customer services for help.
- Please do be aware that if you have the manual top up option selected and your credits expire after 6 months with one or more rental still out on loan, then we will set up a new batch of credits to cover the continued rental of those discs and process a charge for that new batch.
