Brief synopsis of I Think I Love My Wife

Chris Rock writes, directs, and stars in I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE. Rock's film explores a married man's struggle with extramarital temptations. Richard Cooper (Rock) has it all: a beautiful wife, Brenda (Gina Torres); adorable kids; a successful investment banking career--and complete boredom! He has become obsessed with other women, and a visit from an old friend's former flame, sexy and flirtatious Nikki (Kerry Washington), has him staring the possibility of infidelity in the face. Nikki pursues a friendship that provides Richard some much-needed excitement, but also lands him in all kinds of trouble. He jeopardises his reputation at work, causes fights at home, and rapidly loses sight of what he has built his life around. At some point he must choose between his affair-fantasy and remaining the faithful husband and father he's always been.
I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE provides an entertaining and at times thought-provoking modern version of a classic tale, injecting lighthearted humour into a sensitive and all-too-familiar subject that plagues the marriage culture. Rock perfectly channels the suburban, career-climbing family man, while Torres and Washington are convincing as the angel versus devil on his shoulders.

Box Office

Rock's second stint behind the camera results in a sophisticated look at the tedium of an old marriage and the temptation of a new love that marks a maturing of his humor without any attendant dulling of his cutting-edge causticity

New York Times

Mr. Rock has not only done his best work as a director and screenwriter but has also made an unusually insightful and funny mainstream American movie about the predicaments of modern marriage

Chris Rock is mildly amusing three times, for three seconds a time, in this dull, predictable, tedius film. One plot, no sub plots and just goes on and on and on. Don't waste your time, unless you really, really have nothing better to do - like lick the road clean with your tongue!

this should have stayed in his bigger and blacker routine. I'm a fan of his work. But theres not enough here to warrent a big screen outing. Avoid.

Rated - 3 starsI Think I Love My Wife

I have long been a fan of Chris Rock's stand up and writing, so was looking forward to 'I Think I Love My Wife' where Rock stars as Richard, a disillusioned husband of a boring wife, who's attention is drawn to his friend's ex Nikki when she appears in his office suddenly after many years. The storyline is fairly formulaic, and there is a lot about the plot that is illogical; you never really undertand WHY Nikki appears in the first place, and her repeated visits to Richard's office at seemly random times of day (wearing less and less appropriate clothing) doesn't make sense. Also, the fact that she constantly plays Richard for a fool - he seems fine resenting his wife for doing that, so why not Nikki, too?? Although there were a few laugh out loud moments, the film never really takes off in the way you expect it to, and I found myself willing Richard to stop being such a walkover with the women in his life - tell your wife to relax and tell Nikki to get a job that involves a pole and some $20 bills, and then maybe you'd all be happy.

Rated - 5 starsWatch it if about to get married

I am 30 days away from getting married and this film helped me with my fears and phobias. Chris Rock is not inspiration but the camera work and scenes are brilliant, and some bits are very funny, and the singing at the end is just hilarious. Plus some very fit woman which always helps a film along I find. Chris basically narrates about his 8 yr married which does not involve pudding any more, and the eye starts a wandering, and a very fit old friend reappears and tries to seduce him. Look out for the modern day Graduate scene. Most gratifying on the eye. All couples not getting pudding should watch this, then have a good shag and laugh about themselves. Lighten up people and get down ;)

This film is ok nothing spectacular, it seems to be about a subject that he does in his live stand-up stuff. There's a few funny parts in it but I certainly have seen better from Chris Rock and I wouldn't be in a rush to watch it again.
