Rated - 4 starsBLOODY TOURISM

hunkydomste hunkydomste from Liverpool [Highly rated reviewer] , 28/08/2008

From the director of Hitman (a comparatively slick, clean action thriller/shooter) comes one of the bloodiest, most violent films I have ever seen. The most obvious touchstone here has to be the Hostel franchise, however Frontiers has enough extreme moves to make that almost look like a walk in the park.

The premise is a riotous France that is on the brink of being taken over by right extremists, forcing a group of young people to make for the border and towards Holland. They end up in a B&B and in the hands of a family of seriously twisted and violent Neo Nazis, intent on making their lives hell- before they finish them off.

The tone is gritty, dirty and dark and the black Hostel humour is totally absent. Frontiers relies not on cheap jumps and scares, but on full on, in your face, no punch pulled violence. If that is not for you, avoid this trip to human hell.

Rated - 5 starsMust See Extreme Cinema.

Keith Littleworth from Nottingham, England [Highly rated reviewer] , 15/07/2008

Frontiers is an absolute must for fans of extreme cinema. Since the arrival of Saw and Hostel, there seems to be numerous so called ''Gorno'' movies around. usually badly structured, overly competetive with the blood count and majority of the time, pretty damn dissapointing. What we have with Frontiers, is a horror movie with incredible depth. Begginning with the aftermath of a robbery in a rioting Paris, a young group of offenders go on the run with Holland in their sights as a safe haven. The decision to stop off in a remote boarding house for a nights rest proves to be an extremely bad mistake for all! To tell you more, would only spoil you're enjoyment as things viciously unravel. But what I will say is that the acting is fantastic throughout, which is a rare in the current horror genre. The pacing is fast and frantic, the dialogue slick without any cheese and just like the very few descent horror efforts currently about, the movie is relentless and unforgiving.

Be warned though, if you're after a casual horror popcorn movie to rent, this may not be for you. Definately only for those with a strong stomach and with a taste for movies that challenge. Frontieres is the type of film that will stay with you for a while after and another addition to the building case that Hollywood should leave the extreme cinema duties to Europe and Asia, well at least whilst whilst the likes of Aja, Jens, Miike and Marshall are doing their thing.

Rated - 3 starsUltimately predictable...but...

This was a contridiction for me...Same old Same old, and yet pretty entertaining!

Annoyingly predictable and ofcourse nothing new or particularly inspired, but shot really well, good sound, good pacing and stronger than average for a run-of-the-mill...(read more) horror performances pull it through and beyond bearable!

As for the infamous 'nasty' factor, it ofcourse depends on your individual sensebilities, for me personally not anywhere near scary or the worst I've seen...The gore was good and well done still, but I'm just waiting for more suspense, intelligence and creativity...oh yeah and that little thing called originality!!!

The lead actress was a trooper to!
