American teen flicks are never short of clichés, and this musical comedy is no exception, packing in most of the genre conventions on the way to its wildly over-the-top, all-dancing finale. However, another confident performance by Sarah Jessica Parker, the bride-for-barter in Honeymoon in Vegas and the comically confused bride-to-be in Miami Rhapsody, rescues this outing from obscurity. Here she convincingly plays a high-school student who incurs her father's wrath by entering a dance competition.

High-spirited but vapid comedy; of minimal interest outside its target audience of girls in their early teens.

How was this film not bigger than Dirty Dancing? That's right it didn't have Patrick Swayze in it, although Jennifer Grey doesn't hold a light to the likes of Helen Hunt. Who knew Sarah Could dance like that? it hurts me just thinking about it! With a fantastic 80's sound track, great story line and talented acting from stars that haven't faded I suggest that this is a film that should be watched by everyone at least once, although I think you'll find yourselves viewing it more. Two thumbs up, Dave.

Helen Hunt (Twister) is a fanstasy idol of mine met her in london once .. very sweet lady .. anyway this film / musical is not bad for the age has some classic dance scenes and some wild music intros ...

i would recommend this for the whole family and those young girls whom like fantasy / dream movies ( i have not met anyone wohom does not want to be in the movies or singer)

anyway it famous story has lots of detail and dance routines and comes complete for all the family

Enjoy !!

This dvd is superb. Janey (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) is an army brat, who is thrilled to be transferred to the home, of her favourite dance show called Dance TV.

She and her new friend Lynne (played by Helen Hunt), are excited when the show announces an audition for new talent.

Defying her strict and conservative dad, Janey auditions and gets into the finals.

She finds herself paired up with, a dishy dreamboat called Jeff (played by Lee Montgomery), who unfortunately catches the eye of rich girl, Natalie (played by Holly Gagnier).

Jeff on the other hand reluctantly auditions, because of the opportunity presented by his entrepeneurial best friend called Drew (played by Jonathan Silverman).

Despite her father's objections, and Natalie's manipulations, Janey is determined to win the spot.

Watch the film to find out what happens. This film is well worth renting out.

If you can suspend your disbelief long enough to buy Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt as high school girls, this film provides ample reward. The dance routines and clothes are fantastically eighties, and if that doesn't tempt you, then there is intrigue! Passion! Romance! And Shannen Doherty looking about twelve.

On the whole not the best film i have seen nor the worst, this film is about a prissy school girl who has a dream to be a dancer for television she sneeks out the house to practise despite all best efforts of her father she still manages to escape after an alarm is fitted they live in chicargo, so if u like between dirty dancing and fame then this is up your alley.
