the video and audio quality are unwatchable but the archive value of the pioneers of modern pop is priceless.

Rated - 2 starsI'm glad I didn't buy it.

As another reviewer has indicated, this is a major dissapointment in terms of sound and picture quality. I can't believe the original quality was this bad. The tracks give the impression that they have been downloaded from the internet and then put through some dodgy conversion process. A shame, because there's some good acts here.

Given that most of the material on this DVD comes from at least 40 years ago, you might excuse a little less than perfect quality, this however is terrible.

The acts are fine, but the recording quality/transcription is abysmal: quite frankly, this material should never have been put on disc - there must have been better stuff available - it is a waste of time. Only worth looking at if you are a nostalgic masochist, as it will hurt both your eyes AND your ears. To be avoided at all costs.

The dilemma being faced here is do they put this material on a DVD or not because it is so old. The answer is a definite yes because the footage is rare and therefore is better than nothing.

Being half a century old you can forgive some poor quality but most of these clips are abysmally bad.

There is no way they have used the original master tapes on some of these archived clips which is a shame, there are some very talented acts.

The best being Marty Robbins, his 4 minutes+ single 'El Paso' from 1960 is excellent.

What spoils this DVD is no attempt has been made to tidy the film up, and with many of the artists miming (Including Marty Robbins) it’s a 5 minute job overdubbing CD quality sound over each of the tracks.

This certainly should have been done to many, some of the soundtracks are a mile out.

The reels of film should have been given to the Dutch firm BR Music who are the masters of this sort of thing.

Picture Quality 1/5 Sound Quality 1/5

Performances 4/5
