Both Jackie Chan and Tony Leung Chiu-Wai strike against type in this unconvinving blend of chop socky and romantic comedy. Yet the central character is Qi Shu, who plays a naive dreamer from a Taiwanese fishing village, who flies to Hong Kong in response to a message in a bottle. Undeterred by the fact its sender is Leung's gay make-up artist, she tilts her cap at Chan, a millionaire in the middle of a long-running feud with the dastardly Emil Chau. There's precious little martial artistry until Qi is kidnapped. But then there's not that much romance or comedy, either.

Rated - 1 starsJackie has messed up

What has Jackie done? He must be really short of acting jobs, to take this film. He is boring , bottom dollar script turned off not even half way through. Jacke has better get his act together after this pile of mess. AVOID

Rated - 4 starsTOP MOVIE !!!

A somewhat different offering from Jackie Chan in 'Gorgeous'. Bu (Shu Qi) is bored in Taiwan, and after reading a message in a bottle, she goes to Hong Kong to search out a mysterious stranger (Tony Leung), who turn out to be not be exactly what she expected. Eventually she meets C.N. Chan (Jackie) and grows close to him. Meanwhile, Bu's fiancée is looking for her and Jackie has troubles with Lo (Emil Chau), a childhood friend and now business rival.

I have to admit that I enjoyed this, even though romantic-comedies aren't really my thing. It isn't your usual Jackie Chan-style, but if he wants to try something different, then I will gladly support him. I found 'Gorgeous' funny, although others will disagree. There isn't much action, but when there is, it is excellent. The two fight scenes with Brad Allan are some of the best fight-scenes Jackie has ever filmed. They really are incredible, but in the end, this really is more of a 'feel good' movie than anything else.

Not Jackies best movie by a long way, however it is still a reasonable effort. The fight scenes are still very imaginative, with humour thrown in for good measure. The film starts off quite promising, but it feels like it is on slightly too long, and at some points the movie just simply drags. Fans of Jackie must see this movie, but otherwise its not the best film for to create new fans for him, so stay away from this one until your hooked on his others!!!!

Rated - 1 starsRomantic Comedy...? Oh No!

drunkenmaster from Merthyr Tydfil, , 28/06/2005

Ok, I am a big Jackie Chan fan. I think he has proved how versatile he can be, and as an actor I am sure Jackie wants to try different kinds of roles, but this film does not work for him, and for his fans this is a big disappointment.

Shu Qi, who is stunning and managed to look dangerous in 'So Close' is a nice diversion, but the story is weak, and the romance never looks believeable.

I can fully understand why Jackie went for a change in pace though if it gave him the chance to cuddle up to her!

There is quite a good supporting cast on show, with Tony Leung probably coming off best, but in the end there is nothing to really recommend watching this film for. Watch out though for an early appearance of current hot martial arts propery, Stephen Chow.

I give this film 3 stars for what it is trying to be, but, as Confucius say, two tiny punch ups in 95 minutes does not a quality Jackie Chan film make.

Rated - 1 starsThe worst Jackie Chan I've seen

Greg Kirkpatrick from Northants , 29/11/2004

Don't waste your time with this pile of bunkum. I was really disappointed, apart from a brief, and I do mean brief, bit of sticking hands this film was bereft of anything to make me recommend it. Entirely low par.
