Brief synopsis of Walking Tall

Chris Vaughn (The Rock) has come home. He's a retired U.S. Special Forces soldier who has returned to his hometown to renew old relationships and make a new life for himself. But while Chris was away, his boyhood town wasted away to a dilapidated, crime-ridden shell of itself. His wealthy high school rival, Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough), has closed the once-prosperous lumber mill - once the area's largest employer - and has turned the town's resources towards criminal gains. The place Chris grew up is now overrun with crime, drugs, and violence. Enlisting the help of his old pal Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville), Chris gets elected sheriff and vows to shut down Hamilton's operations. His actions endanger his family and threaten his own life, but Chris refuses to back down until his hometown once again feels like home.

Rated - 3 starsReally not that bad

Rented this thinking I'd only watch the first half hour or so but I was pleasantly suprised. It's actually not a bad film, in fact very watchable and the Rock is pretty good in this kind of role (I'm not a 'rock' fan by the way). Give it a try you might be suprised, not a cultural milestone but an easy watch with enough action to keep everyone happy.

Rated - 4 starsEverything an action movie should be!

It's everything I look for in an action film. It's Rambo 21st century style.

One man, conquers all. It's an old formula, and if you're looking for a meaningful gritty film, this ain't for you.

If however you're like me and want a kick ass action film where the good guy wins, without the need to think too hard, then this is for you.

So just sit back & enjoy.

Rated - 3 starsHe will, He will, Rock You!!!

Auteur from Neath , 07/02/2005

I'm not a fan wrestlers truned actors. I'm not a fan of anyone calling themselves after a hard piece of stone. The Rock, as far as I'm concerned, is a Jerry Bruckhiemer film with Sean Connery in it. The wrestler turned actor, known as The Rock, should get a real name... he's earned it.

I was surprised by this film. I was expecting mindless brutal violence and explosions every 15 minutes. But what I got was actually a good story, based on fact, with a not an invincible hero, but a realistic ex-army special forces guy trying to get back into civvies in a corrupt hometown in mid-America. Yeah, there's action, and even explosions, but the violence is realistic, and there's no Rambo/Tom & Jerry absurd feats of macho or mindless destruction.

Instead, you will be treated to a small scale, enjoyable, realistic and sometimes surprising little action film with a lead man who can actually act. I only hope he can build upon this little gem, and please... change his name!

Thumbs firmly up!

Rated - 5 starsWell I enjoyed it!

This film is great and has it all, the Rock makes this film for sure. I love a good action film which is believabe and this is certainly it. The 2nd casino fight scene kicks ass and I had to watch it over and over again. Brilliant film, didn't care it was on for 80 minutes makes me more likely to watch it again. Anyway I hate films that drag on just to make the time up. 5 stars all the way keep them coming Rock.

Rated - 4 starsnot to bad

Considering this film stars a wrestler i was pleasently surprised by it.Ok the fact that i'd had a few beers before watching it might have some bearing on that, but all in all it was an entirley watchable movie, although i can't imagine the rock having to waste a huge amount of time on learning his lines as im sure he doesnt have more than one sentence at a time to say(maybe they should apply that rule to vin diesel movies!!!!).Maybe thats why it doesnt seem to bad, perhaps the director knew rocks limitations, anyway this is well worth a look especially if you want a film that doesn't require ANY thought and is entertaining too!!!

Rated - 3 starsReasonable no-brainer

The Rock stars as an ex-Special Forces guy who returns home to find his hometown run by ex-mates who are now small time criminals. Based on a true story it isn't as bad as I thought with some decent fight scenes. The Rock can't really act but it's pretty disposable stuff all round.
