Brief synopsis of Stella Does Tricks

A gusty teenage prostitute who can already turn tricks with the best of them but still enjoys a giggle about sex with her girlfriends, a young group run by oily pimp Mr Peters. Despite an oddly close relationship with Peters, she is desperate to escape from him, and when her best friend is attacked by one of his cronies she decides to make her move – but not before taking a spectacular revenge on the attacker.

Rating of 3 stars out of 5 Radio Times

A bittersweet story about teenage prostitution from director Coky Giedroyc that is well-intentioned but ends up being rather voyeuristic. Trainspotting's Kelly Macdonald gives an excellent performance as the feisty young Glaswegian girl working in London for creepy pimp James Bolam, who tries to start a new life with drug addict Hans Matheson. Though AL Kennedy's clichéd script leaves you wishing such a sensitive subject had received a better treatment, the film remains compelling thanks to Macdonald's star turn.

I reckon people need to let go of this idea that the downtroden are always nice. They meet another kindred spirit fall in love one of them takes heroin and and ends up a shuddering cynical wreak, the other takes an overdose. Prosaic pish.
