why why why- have more people not watched this!

Best police series around - it explores the boundaries of bad people doing good things and vice versa. Unlike most other purile series' which defines good and bad the shield mixes it up to provide complex characters and good entertainment

Rated - 5 starsBetter than any big screen crime flick

ShoCh ShoCh from London , 15/01/2008

I have of late been turning more and more to television shows for meaty story lines, well drawn characters and edgy drama than I have been to big screen, big budget disapointments. Series' such as The Shield leave practically every crime, thriller type movie lying in the sand, eating their dust.

Because it is the fourth season I was a teensy bit concerned that it might not pack the punch that the first three did. But it surpasses them. The addition of Glenn Close as the new captain added an extra dimension and a fantastic new dynamic to the relationships within the department. She has always been one of my favourite actresses and I truely believe that her role here would be a career highlight. When the film industry all but turns its back on them, thank goodness there are great roles for real actressses over the age of 40 in television.

Rent it, be blown away by it then try to wait patiently for series 5 to be released.

Rated - 5 starsExceptional

As ever the Shield puts great characters in intelligent dilemmas. It explores all the moral ambiguity of Vic's role as police enforcer, putting him on the other side of corruption in this season, and pairing him with a police captain who is actually worthy of his respect, which adds another brilliant dimension to his character's struggle with gangs, his family and himself.

The aftermath of the strike teams' split is a great strand of drama playing in the background of the new captains controversial seizures plan, and the duplicity of all the major characters ensure that nothing is ever straight forward, and no moment is dull. The shield is consistently one of the best shows on TV.
