Numb3rs, if you haven't come across it before, is another US police drama series with a small twist. The force utilise the service of an expert and young mathematician (the brother of one of the officers) to help piece together evidence and provide helpful links to catch the criminals.

As far as US police dramas go, it pushes all the right buttons. The stories are original, the acting solid, the plot lines feasible and the pace is pushed along at a decent pace. My only bug bear is how long can a drama series rely on mathematics to come up with differing scenarios? Even by the end of watching series one there had been some brief moments of mathematical repetition. That said, it's definately watchable, and I wait to see if series 2 can keep up the good work

This isn't your usual FBI style cop show, the main characters are believable, but not unnecessarily 'gritty' which makes a refreshing change, and the story lines aren't simply an excuse for blood and gore. The characters are engaging and likeable, the story lines are interesting and varied. The script is well written and peppered with a little light humour.

This show also differs from the usual crime driven TV series in that the main premise is the use of maths and logic to solve crime. Charlie, a university maths professor (and brother to FBI agent Don) assists in cases to determine patterns, encrypt codes or predict behaviour. However, don't let that put you off as it isn't just for computer nerds or mathematics students.

I really enjoyed watching this first time around on TV but the constant rescheduling meant that I missed many episodes and am now enjoying watching the series again, in its entirety, on DVD.

FBI and maths genius solve crime...what are the odds?

This series passed me by initially and I actually caught it in Hong Kong on holiday. In common with many US series it is slick and well-plotted but has two unique features. Firstly the Tony / Ridley Scott stamp, which is recognisable to all of us raised on high octane blockbusters with a bit of class. Secondly the unusual premise of explaining high level maths (or 'Math' as our colleagues across the pond call it) within an accessible context. OK, so I don't understand all the maths in detail but the plots are tight and the quota of eye-candy is sufficiently high to keep me hooked!

Rated - 3 starsShow with brains, but suffers from filler/poor script

Not a bad premise and genuinely interesting at times. Well casted and in turns light and dark. The problem is it suffers slightly from lack of bredth, there doesn't seem to be enough compelling subjects to sustain the whole 12 episodes and at times the script is painfully cheesy. but as that kind of 'warm' american show it works well, simulteanously showing some of the darker sides of the US within a cozy and logic-based frame. one for the nerds...

I wanted to start this series from the beginning having become hooked in series 3. Totally lives up to expectations and proves that this amazing show hit the ground running!
