The best television show ever produced. That may sound like hyperbole, but this show is on the level with great literature. I would compare it to the great works of Charles Dickens. Though it details Baltimore, it has a lot to say about how any city functions. Outstanding in every way.

Rated - 5 starsIt's about drugs, and it's just as addictive

When we talk about 'good television' we are comparing one show to another. The Wire is the closest you will ever come to seeing a serial drama which can be compared with other art forms. The attempt to create an involved, original story on tv , produced to such a high standard reminds me of Stephen Poliakoff. However, even he hasn't made the attempt to sustain this level of excellence over a number of years. Even the adaptations of Dickens, Austen, Trollope, name who you will, cannot claim this intricacy, this confidence, nor indeed this level of pay-off for the audience.

In the same way that the creators of The X-Files spoke about wanting to create a movie every week, the creators of The Wire speak about wanting to create a novel over a season. And, boy, have they hit the money. It's breathtaking. The big success for me in the third season was the introduction and character arc for Dennis. Just trust me.

By the end of the third season, we have seen the characters evolve and re-align themselves. Several go through catharsis and resolution, several are dead, others are redeemed. Your love for characters such as Dennis, Carver, McNulty, Daniels, Bubbs, Omar even Avon, String, Prop Joe and Slim - and your hatred for Marlo and Burrell to name but two - will be plentifully rewarded.

I'm holding my breath til they release season 4.

This is the best season yet of this brilliant crime drama. So good it defies all stereotypes usually associated with crime fiction. RENt it now.

Rated - 5 starsThe Best TV Show Ever?

horsebadorties from Hull , 12/07/2007

Building upon seasons one and two this is a show which just gets better and better. The range of characters develops even further and this season takes us further into the murky waters of the political arena and shows how this is the real problem facing the justice system in America.

It is very gratyfying to find a show with REAL depth that doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator and respects it's audeince. The only mystery is why this isn't one of the most talked about shows on TV.The best TV show ever? Probably.........
