Rating of 1 stars out of 5 Radio Times

This rags-to-riches vehicle for superstar diva Mariah Carey invites ridicule on almost every level. In her starring debut as a struggling backing singer hoisted into the big time, Carey possesses all the star quality of a pub karaoke singer but none of the memorable tunes. The gaudy early eighties setting provides a certain nostalgic amusement, though the rest of the limited entertainment on show is of the unplanned variety. Whether the lowest ebb is Carey and manager/boyfriend Max Beesley's telepathic compositional skills, the shock reappearance of the singer's beloved childhood cat or the reunion with her mother that — literally — comes out of nowhere, this is a staggeringly silly movie. A midnight movie double-bill with Showgirls beckons.

Mariajs strangely misshapen breasts have more screen presence than she does. Forget watching paint dry, this is the ultimate in boredom!

Lousy acting. Not very exciting music. Weak plot. You see quite a bit of Mariah Carey's great body but that is about it.

I really like this film.

It has a great good -time feel to it.

It's no Osacr winner but it is rather enjoyable. I think it's best watched on a rainy Sunday afternoon, it also has a great soundtrack.

Camp, lame, sickly sweet and Mariah, waht more could you want.

P.s - I love Mariah!
