Brief synopsis of Gridiron Gang

Dwane "The Rock" Johnson stars in this gritty and inspirational movie based on a true story about a group of teenage delinquents given a second chance to redeem themselves by playing football. Sean Porter (Johnson) is a frustrated juvenile probation officer. Most of the kids in his detention camp are either sent back to prison once they leave or meet a violent end when they return to the streets. Desperately looking for a way to make a difference, he and his co-worker Malcolm Moore (Xzibit) devise a plan to teach discipline and resposibility through the game of football. But with only four weeks before the start of the season, Porter must overcome insurmountable odds to put together a competitive team. It's a season that will test their minds, spirit, and bodies as Porter teaches his players the principles of good character, strength through resiliency, and genuine respect for one another.

If you like the genre of the underdogs who make good then this is the film for you. OK, the acting isn't great and the storyline is simple and obvious, but if you can forget that then what you get is an enjoyable, simple film

Rated - 4 starsA Diamond in the Rough

I rented this on the basis of Wayne Johnson (the Rock) being in it, having enjoyed his previous films as uncomplicated entertainment. I didn't expect such a well acted & written story that managed to tell the old underdog tale in a way almost devoid of the usual US schmaltz. Johnson is getting better with each film he puts out, and the rest of the cast remain believable without being overly stereotypical.

Entertaining and even thoughtful, and well worth a look.

Well acted and a great script keeps you hooked. Plenty of sport to keep sport fans hooked but a good stoyline of the troubles of urban America. Search this little gem out.

Rated - 4 starsBest acting from the rock Yet.

A customer from Lincolnshire , 19/07/2007

This is definately the best film the rock has been in. This time its not him doing all the action parts. He actually has to act and he does a great job.

Based on a true story. It makes you wonder why we cant incorperate some of these principles in the UK.

Definately would recommend this to people who enjoy the underdog beats the odds kind of film. (reminded me of the Mean Machine though)!!!!!!
