The film is all about mood. If you are not in it, you will not like the movie. My recommendation is to watch it at night, in bed, with no worries on your mind or things to do. It is not something really great, but it soothes the soul like one of those old road books. The story itself is more of a three parter, each section detailing a mindset and the situations that define it. You see the hopeless romantic, the one person who let the other inside instead of just sticking to the outside, and for whom losing the other is worst than death; then there is the rebellious daughter that loves and hates her father until it's to late to do anything either way; and of course, the story of Nora Joneses and Jude Law's characters.Bottom line: lay comfy in your bed and listen to the slow rhythms of the music while digesting the human nature presented in the film. In the end it is worth watching.

Singer-turned -actress Norah Jones plays jilted Elizabeth who takes a trip across America to find herself, beginning and ending with Jude Law (and blueberry pie). In-between, she encounters Racel Weisz and David Strathairn suffering a bitter divorce, and Natalie Portman gambling her life away. Visually stunning, full of nice moments, but not perfect.

Okay, so its not Wong Kar-Weis best film. The main ingredients of lovelorn characters, gorgeous photography and a bucket full of melancholy are all there but theres an inner sprit missing. Its not just because hes shot a film outside of China or Hong Kong, Happy Together was made in Argentina and still managed to capture everything great about Wong kar-Wei, the problem is the two leads, who are for the most part, dull. All the support acts, David Strathairn, Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz are great and their storylines and acting are much more engaging than the two leads. But as Jude Law and Norah Jones are the main thread that links the film together, theres a feeling of irritation throughout. Still this could be seen as picking. For a lot of film-makers this would be a very good film, but Wong kar-Wei has set a very high standard for himself.

'My Blueberry Nights' is to an extent, typical of Wong Kar Wai's work as it mixes beautiful stylised cinematography with the depiction of the ordinary lives of the protagonists (for the most part). There is however evidence of Wong compromising his artistic vision in favour of gaining wordlwide recognition. The inclusion of a more action-packed plot for example. The look of the film is typical of the urban aesthetics common in Wong's films. However Christopher Doyle's contribution is sorely missed. Overall it is still a very watchable film with passable performances by all (Rachel Weisz and David Staithairn in particular stand out) but one which perhaps focuses primarily on style in oppose to his earlier films which regained much substance.

Not a lot I can say about this film except it ambles along. It doesn't really have any high or low moments as nothing much happens. When I'd watched it, I couldn't say it was bad but I thought, what was the point of that then? Maybe it's just too deep for me!
