Brief synopsis of The Serpent

From the writer of 'Get Carter', comes the terrifically gripping new thriller 'The Serpent'. Vincent Mandel is a photographer caught up in an ugly divorce and fighting for custody of his children. His already troubled existence is blown apart by the appearance of a ghost from his past: Joseph Plender. Seductive, sympathetic, Plender is nonetheless utterly ruthless, a predator motivated by pure hatred of former classmate Vincent, and hungry for vengeance.

A pretty good revenge type thriller with some reasonable twists. Theres not a whole lot stunningly new or original, and the outcome is predictable, but If you are OK with subtitles, this is definately worth a watch.

Rated - 4 starsGripping thriller

Sometimes the subtitles are really hard work in forign language films but I was so engrossed in the plot I barely noticed I was reading them. There are plenty of edge-of-the-seat moments and reasonable plot twists to keep the action moving along nicely. There are many disturbing subjects touched upon but handled well I think. Overall, I would recommend this film but not to the faint-hearted.

Rated - 4 starswell worth watching

rockriffraff from cheltenham , 07/04/2008

There are some films which really are worth watching despite the effort of subtitles , and this is one (like OldBoy and The Eye are two others); very neat and tight story, believable characters, and for a change a 'villain' who is both consistently nasty (no out of character changes of heart like some Hollywood cop-outs) but also not ridiculously impregnable to harm.

A couple of plot holes, but generally satisfying and enjoyable. Great wind up of tension early on , even though you can guess where it is going you really feel for the central character.

Well worth seeing.
