Brief synopsis of Shield, The - Series 5

Transgressing the seemingly rock-solid boundaries of regular television programming, THE SHIELD refuses the strictures of black-and-white depictions of clear-cut moral dilemmas in favor of an ambiguity that will challenge even the most jaded viewers. This collection presents the series' fifth season in its entirety.

Simply the best cop show/drama on the planet, there are other cop shows on tv which are good but this drama is in a completely different league, good script, good acting just simply excellent..I would go on but I'm afraid i would be repeating words like excellent, brilliant, fantastic, super etc etc....

Rated - 5 stars'Shield, The - Series 5'

The best season of the best series on Tv apart from early 24.

Superb acting, scripts that excel. Each episode usually has smaller story threads but to get the most out of this season you have to have seen the others as there are story arcs which conitune season to season, along with brilliant character progression and changes to peoples characters based on events that happen to them.

All of the events of the previous seasons are all interlinked in a complex, but exhilierating story line.

Not for the feint-hearted or the young! SUPERB!

Rated - 1 starsAngry Fan's review

A customer from Brighton , 18/06/2008

As a long time fan of the show it pains me to give this DVD a 1 star rating even though the show remains one of the best US imports. Let me explain.

This season ramps up the tension as an Internal Affairs officer relentlessly hunts Mackie and his crew and the cracks and suspicion begin to appear between them.

The acting and writing are as excellent as ever.

So why the one star. Well this one is down to the DVD release. This season builds to an amazingly tense final episode which when you get to watch it appears uneven and rushed.

The reason being the broadcasted finale is a feature length episode and this is a standard length episode. But how can this be? Well, It's easy when the DVD company decides to hack the finale episode in a clumsy fashion. Even the episode screen for the DVD finale episode shows a scene from the finale that has been cut (which also means a cliffhanger from the penultimate episode is left unresolved!!!!)

And then they wonder why some people resort to illegally downloading episodes from the net rather than pay to see the 'official' release.

I have read from fan sites that the 6th season release is also similarly butchered.

So what do the fans do now apart for pray for a repeat and make sure to watch the episodes when first shown.

Even though the episode is not as good as I imagine it should be The Shield remains one of the best shows going. Just be warned.

With far more complex characters than other TV shows the Shield is utterly incredible viewing that you just can't wait to watch the next installment. As perfect as TV gets
