Brief synopsis of Ratman

Pint-sized cult hero Nelson De La Rosa stars as the horrific genetic mutation that is Ratman! Created to win a Nobel prize; the only awards he’ll be picking up will be for slaying showering beauty Eva Grimaldi but not before she’s soaped up for your pleasure! Janet Agren plays her sister out to discover what has happened to Eva and who or what is devouring the residents of a lush Caribbean island.

A glorious exploitation fest of bad taste, worse acting, needless nudity and tense wince-inducing slaughter, please welcome the loveable Ratman.

This movie is ultimately disappointing despite its genuinely scary monster. The ratman himself is good but the rest of the movie just seems to plod along with victim after victim needlessly placing his or herself in front of the ratman's bevenomed claws. The ending is quite good though I guess, shame they didn't put as much thought into the rest of the film.

...Because I didn't!

Despite the title and the image on this page being for 'Rat Man', when I ordered this disc as part of my rental subscription I actually received 'Manhattan Baby' which is a completely different film, by Lucio Fulci.

The other reviewer obviously didn't notice, because not only is Rat Man NOT directed by Fulci, it is a completely different story line as well.

I notifed Amazon about a month ago but I'm unsure as to whether they have rectified the mistake as Amazon's own review and the product details relate to Manhattan Baby and not Rat Man.

Amazon had to remove Rat Man from my rental list because they couldn't guarantee I wouldn't just receive Manhattan Baby again which, BTW, is a God awful film by anyone's standards. I can't stand Fulci at the best of times (OK, Zombie Flesh Eaters is alright) and this is one of his usual pathetic attempts at the horror genre.

What can I say about this film, the title says it all.

If you like your cheap 70's B movies then this is a must, even if its for the 15 minute previews of films done by the same director.

The plot is stupid, the effects worse but most of all the real comedy is in the dubbing, even though they are english/american actors.

If you want a cheap laugh then this is one to watch, even just for the ending
