Rated - 3 starsJust about floats

In a sea of superb animation fantasies that are out there this one for me just very slighly misses the mark. Based on what is intended to be Loch Ness in Wartime, the story seems just to formulaic, old and slightly over egged - yes even for kids - and has slightly less sparkle that more worthy recent output such as Stardust, Enchanted or similar have. Despite the Pevenseys in the stunning 'Narnia', I think children now will be slightly bored and uninterested with the WW II setting - its all just a bit too drab and lacking sparkle.

That said, overall it is a pretty reasonable film, with some great performances from the young 'uns involved, and is innocuous enough for an afternoons entertainment with the youngsters and granny, its just not set to be a classic.

Rated - 4 starsExcellent Family Film

This turned out to be a great surprise when I took my six year old to the cinema and was just as impressive on DVD. The story is a good old fashioned tale and will entertain all the family. It's funny, touching, exciting, heartwarming and it rattles along at a fair pace. There's the odd charater cliche here and there but it does exactly what it sets out to do and that's provide great entertainment with incredible special effects.

Quality! Don't miss it.
