Brief synopsis of Invasion, The - BLU-RAY Version

This slick sci-fi horror hybrid is the fourth adaptation of Jack Finney's THE BODY SNATCHERS to land on screens. Infused with modern details like text messaging and 24-hour cable news, THE INVASION updates the classic story for today's tech-centric world. After the space shuttle Patriot crashes unexpectedly, people across America begin to exhibit strange behaviour. Psychiatrist Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman, BEWITCHED) begins to notice the change in those around her, including her ex-husband, Tucker Kaufman (Jeremy Northam, GOSFORD PARK), who works at the CDC. Joined by her friend Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig, CASINO ROYALE), Carol attempts to unravel the mystery as she rescues her young son.

THE INVASION gives Kidman a chance to act the part of an action hero. She runs in heels, crashes cars, and shoots guns, but she looks more like a Hitchcockian blonde than a latter-day heroine. Clad in steely grays, she perfectly matches the film’s sober palette of neutrals. Genre veteran Veronica Cartright gives a good performance as one of Carol's patients, who suspects that her husband isn't himself. Cartright has appeared in sci-fi classics such as THE X-FILES and ALIEN, but she also starred in Philip Kaufman's 1978 version of the story. Unlike WAR OF THE WORLDS or SIGNS, the invaders here don't arrive in UFOs or appear as little green (or gray) men. Instead, the threat in THE INVASION is so creepy because the aliens look just like everyone else.

Effectively creepy and surprisingly unnerving... INVASION does very well, aided by an effective John Ottman score, in conveying the bump-in-the-dark terror

Great film! Fantastic on Blu-Ray! Brilliant reworking of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers with genuinely tense moments, highly recommended!

Rated - 2 starsPlot? It def' lost that.....

GavinJones GavinJones from Stourbridge [Highly rated reviewer] , 18/03/2008

I'd not seen this even advertised, but having seen that Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig were in it, I thought, 'It must be pretty good for them to do it'.....whoa, how wrong was I.

Daniel Craig has done well over the last few years gaining some credibilty, particularly later on in his life with Layer Cake and James Bond. This one does absolutely nothing for him, if anything, I'm hoping the next Bond movie brings him back up the scale, cos this film was a stinker. Even the beautiful Kidman as the lead failed to keep me intersted.

The plot is woeful, more holes than a damaged seive and I just didnt get it at all, at no point was I in the least interested as to what was going on. In fact, I know when I'm watchin a good film, I pause it for loo breaks and when I want a drink...I just let this one run..and from the Mrs, I didnt miss a thing.

At least I learned from this film is that if our planet ever does get taken over...as long as i walk slow and look distant, I'll be ok.....

Oh dear, what a waste of time.

Predictable. Rushed. Flat. Unimaginative.

This film was so mediocre that I actually have the hump with my eyeballs for failing to fall asleep during it.

Rated - 2 starsNothing New here!

Quite strange to see Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig is a below average run of the mill film.

Nothing challenging at all in this film and nothing memorable to wrie about.

Best to save your money and avoid!
