A bourgeois family slowly comes apart at the seams.

Badly shot, badly written and with second-rate performances throughout. Leaves you wondering what the point was; one of the worst films I've ever seen. A real waste.

Rich in visual content this well crafted film wonderfully relects contemporary society and the way individuals come to terms with their fate. Nice ending too.

A refreshingly thoughtful film exploring different kinds of betrayal across a range of characters and relationships. It's ambitious and has some terrific acting but there are too many parallel plots and it doesn't fully hang together. Kristin Scott-Thomas and Damian Lewis are both excellent in the central story which explores the emotional poverty of the rich & privileged. And Penelope Cruz acts her socks off as the sick prostitute whose link to the other plots only becomes clear at the end.The title seems over-prententious and the script tries too hard to include too much. But don't knock it. It's a brave and intelligent film - and a real change in subject matter from the trad. griitty working class focus of so many interesting british films. There's a lot to enjoy here as Martha Fiennes takes a satirical view of some pretty unlikeable upper classes. Ben Chaplin and Ian Holm are also first class and the film is beautifully shot.

Very good film, nicely acted, and visually appealing. I liked the way it dealt with the issues of friendship and trust and it is good to see a British film which is nicely crafted.

This was recommended by a friend. After watching it I read the Rotten Tomato reviews and was surprised how badly received it had been. I enjoyed the movie.......it was only in the retelling of the story to a friend that I felt it had been melodramatic (in some places); one glaring example being the 'last dance' scene............... entirely unbelievable in my opinion. The story line was somewhat convoluted ..... less information or a longer film may have prevented the 'melodrama' criticism. Despite all of that I remained glued to the screen for the entirety and felt exhausted when it ended!!
