Brief synopsis of Taxi To The Dark Side

"Taxi to the Darkside," the latest prize-winning documentary from Oscar-nominee Alex Gibney, confirms his standing as one of the foremost non-fiction filmmakers working today. A stunning inquiry into the suspicious death of an Afghani taxi driver at Bagram air base in 2002, the film is a fastidiously assembled, uncommonly well-researched examination of how an innocent civilian was apprehended, imprisoned, tortured, and ultimately murdered by the greatest democracy on earth. Intermingling documents and records of the incident with candid testimony from eyewitnesses and participants, the film uncovers an inescapable link between the tragic incidents that unfolded in Bagram and the policies made at the very highest level of the United States government in Washington, D.C. Combining the cool detachment of a forensic expert with the heated indignation of a proud American who holds his country to a high standard, Gibney's film reveals how the Bush administration has systematically betrayed the very ideals it professes to uphold.

Brilliant thought provoking film. I felt sorry for so many in this film and at the end was not sure who to blame but I have given it some thought and I blame the people at the very top who, of course, had very little repercussions in their life. War is a dirty business and full of innocents. This films protrays the nasty side of human beings and it leaves you thinking long after you have seen it. Definitely one to watch. It's not a feel good movie!

Rated - 4 starsPowerful and thought provoking - everyone should watch it

Anyone who is going to rent this film is already asking questions of Americas 'War on Terror' which is a shame because everyone should really watch this film. It was a very strong subject and an equally strong message - it makes you think and it makes you question which is always a good sign of a documentary . This film has very strong images and isnt for the faint hearted but if anyone wants to be more informed about the truths that were twisted and the laws that were bent to get the world into the war against terror then this film hits the spot. The problem at the moment though is that there is a glut of fiction films on the same subject matter - this film though works because it is a real story it also is the sort of film that leaves a bad taste in your mouth - how on earth did Britan get sucked into this mess.

This is a rather harrowing story of how an innocent terrrorist suspect was treated and the horrific torture of those under interrrogation. It is very disturbing.

Rated - 4 starsTaxi to the Dark Side (2008) - Alex Gibney

A customer from Rochester , 10/09/2008

Disturbing and extremely intelligently produced documentary on the use of torturous, inhumane, immoral and sometimes plain homicidal actions on 'terror suspects' used by the US forces in Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay. Gibney clearly shows how attitudes and decisions at the very highest level of command were direct causes of the prisoners treatments, and how the simple punishment of a few soldiers was a disgraceful and shameful claim to justice. Every Westerner should feel intense shame and anger at the US governments actions after seeing this film.
