Brief synopsis of Boarding Gate

Controversial actress Asia Argento teams up with equally divisive director Olivier Assayas for the steamy thriller BOARDING GATE. Sandra (Argento) has left a life of prostitution behind, but her past catches up with her when former lover Miles Rennberg (Michael Madsen) returns. Their tryst doesn't turn out as either had imagined and Sandra is forced to escape to Hong Kong. But running away only makes matters worse, and before long, she finds herself in grave danger and cannot even trust her closest friends...

As always, it's easy to be dazzled by Mr. Assayas's camerawork....His use of Brian Eno here is particularly potent. Mr. Eno creates music that drifts around you, enveloping you in moods and waves of feeling...

Rated - 2 starsMr Blond ? Fetch the Grecian first..

Hmmm... A tale of two halves here. Part one introduces bedraggled Sandra (Asia Argento) a sick looking bunny who reaquaintes herself with former flame and fellow fetish fan, Miles (Michael Madsen). After various back and forth moments and discovering a different use for his belt, Miles ends up with a Headache - A permanent one. This first part is presented at snails pace and frustratingly various conversations are so quiet we were straining to here what was being said. Part two came to the rescue - Enter the subtitles. On the run in China, Sandra attempts to reunite with another former fancy, but alas, the guy's wife is pulling the strings. Abandoned and hurt, Sandra is finally presented with an opportunity to carve herself some justice... Will she take it..?

If you are renting this out of fondness for Madsen, beware.

Rated - 3 starsTalky but good

Moondog from London [Highly rated reviewer] , 01/07/2008

Ex girlfriend/prostitute (Argento) calls on Michael Madsen (looking suitably seedy here) a businessman with dodgy connections, whose business is going down the tubes.

Asia Argento deals in drugs and dreams of setting up a nightclub in China. She's prepared tio kill but not exactly suited to it or the consequences.

A good film from Assayas, though not was good as Clean (or Irma Vepp). One of Asia's best (probably since B Monkey). Talky first half. Worth a look.
