why has the release date for this title as TBC its out in the shops to buy??????

I saw the US theatrical release of D-War and as a monster movie fan I really enjoyed it, which is why I've given it a 4. However, I expect that many people might find it difficult to follow - the US release was only 90 minutes long and it meant that the backgrounds and motivations of the principal characters is rushed through without really understanding the background to the mythology. The sfx are good - the destruction of downtown Los Angeles by a supernatural medievel style army supported by dragons and other monsters of all shapes and sizes is very enjoyable - but then the film moves to a final showdown which again is rushed and not well explained. However, compared to Hyung Rae Shim's previous monster movie outing, Yonngary (aka Reptilian) this is miles better but not up to the standard of South Korea's other recent foray into monster movie making, The Host.

What is hard to believe that this move was made only last year, if it was made in 1970 that I could believe that.

The base story is a good one.

Some of the execution of the story is ok.

Just make sure you have the Fast-Forward button to hand.

Watching it on cable you cant skip forward fast enough over the drawn out self- indulgent bits.

The army guys are all best described as ‘Chumps’.

The actors move like the ‘slap-stick’ characters out of the old cult TV series Monkey.

The stereotypes make you want to hurry the death of the ‘sympathy character’ as you keep thinking “why would they do that”, there are so many unnatural bits to the screen play.

There are so many holes in the narrative it drives you mental.

Sadly there are some good bits to the movie that slipped in somehow.

If you can get any other movie out first then do so, leave this till last.

Yes there are loads of good special effects - that is no substitute for a good story line.

What is disappointing is that someone wasted a lot of good money on this that could have been better spend in the early part of the movie before a single frame was shot. It is almost that the no one has the nerve to say NO! to Hyung-rae Shim.

It is possible that this was only meant for the Korean market and they can tolerate this kind of ‘period drama’.

The battle scenes are a mix between Star Wars and Middle Earth - like where one side have the laser canons from whilst the good side just had the bow and arrows? If the good and bad dragons come from the same place (realm) you would have thought there was some sort of common level of technology. The movie “Eragon” has a better dragon story implementation that this one. It just takes a bit of effort.

I can only assume that Hyung-rae Shim funded this movie himself – he should not have been so attached to it to allow his judgement to have been clouded by his heart over reason. If Hyung-rae Shim was a gardener with rich fertile soil, with health seeds and pure water – you would come back to see dead plants. Maybe he should try another job.

Young kids may love it, pretend it’s a family movie, you can cook dinner and come back and carry on with the movie as if you never left. Therefore an ideal Christmas lunch time movie.

So in short I would rather pluck out my eyes than watch this again.
