Brief synopsis of Be Kind Rewind

A man (Black) whose brain becomes magnetized unintentionally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake the lost films, which include Back to the Future, The Lion King, and Robocop.

Rated - 2 starsIt's a stinker

Sorry folks, if you were expecting madcap hilarity, then stick to the trailer. In fact, the trailers preceeding this film were funnier than the feature. I don't often feel moved enough to review, but this was Disappointing with a captial D. It had so much potential to be a real goodie, but somehow it just didn't work. A combination of bad script, bad acting (surprisingly) bad direction, a general 'budget' feel to it and the story was just weak and cheesy. So much so that we actually wondered whether it was aimed at being deliberately ametuer in line with the theme. But it just wasn't that clever.

Really folks, I urge you not to waste your time and money on this one, there are much better things on offer and this just won't hit the mark.

How does Jack Black sleep at night? He plays the same character in every film - one which became epicly boring after school of rock - and still calls himself an actor.

I have lost all faith in hollywood and all of the people who were involved in the production of this dreadfull and outrageously predictable film.

After i watched the film and left the cinema, i felt depressed and almost vommited. i wish God was kind and let me rewind the two hours i spent watching this horrendous film.

Rated - 1 starsthe trailer has all the best bits.....

Seen the trailer and was prepared for Jack Blacks usual standard of film, which I love. He seems different in this film though, almost manic, and the way he and his co-star talk over over each other became annoying - maybe they were improvising? My kids laughed more at the trailers before the film,

Rated - 2 starsDidn't mind Be Kind...but

A reasonable comedy that given the subject idea could definately have done better. Unfortunately the whole thing gets lost in a fictional 'message' that overrides the whole comedy aspect and dilutes what could have been an excellent fun filled hour and a half into a slightly below par bit of fluff. Performances are good and it is worth a watch, just be kind to yourself and have it on your rental list rather than waste a trip to the big screen to watch this one.

Rated - 4 starsA charming film, accessible to all - not just movie buffs.

A charming film of many levels of enjoyability. The plot meanders quite a bit, but that prevents any elements becoming stale. It has an excellent narrative, and is well shot, and perfectly cast. Due to it's unconventional style, however, it suffers from an eclectic mix of deep and touching scenes, cheesey, and the just plain ridiculous - some of which jar against the whole. Still, a pleasant watch - and accessible to all, not just movie buffs.

This film is bad, avoid!

As a film-fan I was looking forward to watching this one. Unfortunately, it’s a brilliant idea gone straight down the toilet. To be fair, the scenes where Jack Black and co are remaking iconic moments in cinema are funny. Their low-budget take on Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey made me smile. But this occupies a very small part of the film, the rest of it is just garbage. Overly sentimental towards a load of characters I couldn’t care less about, and made-up jazz history. If you’re going to re-write history, at least make it entertaining (like Braveheart), who cares about jazz music?

My Gran, maybe…
