Rated - 5 starsGreat idea, superb film...

After seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the superb P.S. I Love you, it was great to watch him on screen again in a pretty similar role in this one, and I hope there are many more . The accidental husband is a really great little idea, with some excellent scripting and performances from all involved, not a completely 'samey' sort of rom-com this one has more to it and as sentimental as it is, one of my top rom-coms of the year so far. On top of that it has a superb cover version of the Buzzcocks 'Ever Fallen In Love With Someone' just at the right point of the film. Definately worth a watch and recommended for a cuddly night out - or in !

Rated - 0 starsAs bad as it gets

Cheesy film: boring, predictable, contradictory, full of clichés and more embarrassing to womanhood than Bridget Jones - The Edge of Reason.

Rated - 2 starsWeak editing and direction lets this comedy down

On release, most critics gave it 2 or 3 stars and I can see why. Romantic comedy is the hardest genre to crack because you have to compete with all those great 50s Hollywood movies, but there’s a chance for Accidental Husband to get 4 stars on DVD release if Griffin Dunne restores four deleted scenes: 1st the scene that establishes Richard Bratton (Firth) as dull but dependable, 2nd, the scene that establishes Patrick Sullivan (Morgan) as bad husband material for Sophia (Machado) this is important as it has to contrast him as good husband material for Emma Lloyd (Uma Thurman), 3rd the scene in which Patrick does the thing that makes Emma fall in love with him, and finally the scene in which Richard does the thing that makes Emma decide she can’t marry him. Oh, and introducing the wedding planner early on would make sense of the father-daughter sub-plot. Without these scenes the film is disjointed, even a little rushed, but it did remind me that I must watch High Society and June Bride again.

Rated - 3 starsFeel good movie.

Aww, this film has such a sweet story line you just wish it was you who had things work out the way they did in the end... Uma Thurman does throw out a good film.

A good flick, I would say its more of a girlie film but secretly my husband quite enjoyed it too.
