Scott's best film since GLADIATOR is a classy cops'n robbers thriller where the latter outclasses the former. Crowe tries to redress the imbalance with a committed performance, but you can tell he knows it's Washington's movie

American gangster is good watch, although it is no quite in the same league as 'The Departed' or the likes of 'Good Fellows' and perhaps 'Carlito's Way'. However on its own merit, American Gangster is a good solid gangster movie. It flows at a good pace. The acting is excellent with good performances from Denzel and Russ, and it builds up to a good climax.

See this movie it's one of the best Gangster movies since The Godfather IMO. Ridley Scott seems to get the best out Crowe, superb acting, but it is Washingston who steals the show, what a nasty piece of work ! Long film but never drags, great dialogue, plenty of action, just enough blood and guts, incredible when you realise this is based on a true story - don't miss it !

A fact based movie, running over 2hrs. A thought provoking movie that draws you in at the start and holds you until the end. Denzel Washington, corrupt gangster and Russell Crowe, honest law enforcement officer who are both focused on what morality means to them, and not stopping until each have achieved their aim. The ending is very satisfying and leaves you with a feeling that justice was done. Not to be missed.
