A brilliant war movie without the fighting. It was a great insight into the Israeli army. The acting was a little hammy but overall a shocking sad film.

Beaufort was a similar style of movie to Jarhead in that it highlighted the routine and doldrums that occupy much of military life. Even the incoming fire was announced with a sense of routine, and a lack of concern. The big difference between the two movies - at the most obvious level - is that Jarhead, itself, was dull, and Beaufort wasn't.There was enough going on in Beaufort (ironically, without much actually happening) around the politics of the occupation, the politics of the withdrawl, and the personalities that you want to watch. It's also a visually more appealing movie - Jarhead is set in the desert, so they had little to work with on that front.Beaufort isn't an action-packed 'Give 'em hell, Harry' war movie, but it is an interesting watch.

Very good telling ot the Israeli depature from Fort Beaufort. There is a ood feeling of isolation and anticpiation for all of the soldiers to get out of the place.

Oscar-nominated, this film is an accurate portrayal of the timeless military chore of guarding an outpost in hostile territory. The pace of the film matches the pace of outpost life - long stretches of tense anticipation and stilted conversation are broken by occasional outbursts of violence at the hands of an almost invisible enemy. Given that the location is an ex Crusader citadel one becomes conscious of the historical perspective - these young men are just the latest among many generations of soldiers who have guarded this place against their foes over the centuries. This is not a rip-roaring fast paced action packed film - it takes time to delve into the moral and political tensions behind what these soldiers are being asked to do. If you like watching a variety of war films this one is unusual and will broaden your range. If you're expecting 'Rambo' or dislike subtitles forget it.
