Rated - 4 starsA (nearly) lost classic crime drama

A customer from London , 04/08/2008

This 2006 TV series deserved a lot better than its fate of being pulled off air after a few episodes by NBC and cancelled. The idea was that the duo of private investigator/kidnap experts would attempt to rescue a victim each series - it's a great loss of lovers of high quality US TV drama that the whole edifice seems to have collapsed under the weight of its multi-layered plots and story arcs, vivid and true-to-life characters and crackling dialogue. It looks beautiful as well. Performances by Delroy Lindo, Timothy Hutton et al are mesmerising.

What a waste! How can they run season after season of paint-by-numbers dreck like CSI, NCIS etc etc and throw pure gold like this on the scrapheap!

Lucky for us we can still appreciate its full glory on DVD.

The only negative (for me) is the unfeasibly high mortality rate (so many people die you wonder whether it is all going to be worth it to save one young life) and, towards the end, the gradual accumulation of unbelievable twists and turns does get rather over-elaborate.

Rated - 4 starsKidnapped - The Greatest US TV Drama?

A customer from North Yorkshire, England , 16/11/2008

I totally agree with the review below. I'd like to add my voice to the truth that this TV series should never have been cancelled. In the UK it was on at an ungodly hour but I stayed up and watched it in anticipation every week. I loved it. There were a few odd bits that annoyed a little but they were swept aside by the great acting, suspense and climax as the story unfolded. How LOST is kept on the air with its frankly mickey-taking over-stretched blantant money-making never-ending, pointless story line and Kidnapped gets scrapped I'll never know. Actually I've answered my own question there: 'money-making'. Rent this, it is the best US drama I've ever seen. Plus, Knapp is super cool without trying.
