The Scorpion King 2: Rise Of A Warrior is a superb dvd, but does not star The Rock as The Scorpion King in this movie.

In this film, you travel back to the beginning, and watch as a legend is born, in this prequel to The Scorpion King.

Having watched his father die at the hands of the King, young Mathayus (played by Michael Copon who starred in Power Rangers: Time Force), embarks on a life long quest for vengeance, that will transform him into a warrior, whose very name has the power, to strike fear into the heart of the ancient world.

Russel Mulcahy directions this sequel. He directed Highlander and Resident Evil: Extinction.

Also in this film are: Randy Couture playing Sargon of Akkad and Karen David as Layla the heroine, who is Mathayus' childhood friend and love.

Well worth watching....

Rated - 0 starsAlmost unbelievable

A customer from Manchester , 05/11/2008

I rented this film because I vaguely recalled watching the first one and I was in the mood for a sort of pointless action film. This, however, took my intentions too seriously and proved to be, and i say this with all seriiousness, probably the worst film i have ever seen. To begin with there is absolutely no plot construct or continuity - it is as though the writers had a bunch of stuff they wanted to put in a film and then struggled to fit it around the concept.

Secondly there is the appalling CGI, I have seen better in a BBC series and certainly expect more from a title like this - the final scene featured a scorpian who they hadn't bothered\didn't know how to\ran out of money (take your pick) to actual render so they left it half invisible (hilarious) and then half rendered the creature; it looked like something I rendered for a laugh whilst at university, not something from a Hollywood studio.

The acting was abismal throughout as was the tenuous love story angle. There was no character development and I simply couldn't have cared less whether they died or not as their motivations were either unknown or weak and they were generally annoying. The perpetual references to Herodotus (incorrect at that) were utterly pointless. It was as though the writers had skimmed over his Histories and then decided there was a canon of mythology in there somewhere - something which anybody who has read the book will tell you there is not.

All in all, the story was terrible, the acting embarrasing, the CGI criminal and the film pointless. Do not waste valuable time in your life watching this as it is so bad it isn't even funny.

Rated - 2 starsIt was as I feared

A customer from King's Lynn , 28/11/2008

I rented this film for one reason and that reason was Rany Couture.

I'm a massive fan of MMA and to me Randy is a legend.

Unfortunately acting is not one of his strong points. The film itself isn't even as good as the original. It reminds me of the current Robin Hood or Merlin TV series.

Never mind Randy, stick with MMA.
